Greater Than Gravity

We gazed, the both of us, in tandem at the night
She placed a single finger in between Jupiter and Gemini
She dropped her hand and head, pulled me close, looked me in the eyes and said
“Baby, the heavens have aligned.”

How can it be?
The property of heavenly bodies is me
It’s like my mom said,
“Son, you’ll be greater than gravity.”
If you believe as I believe
and I believe in earthly bodies most of all
We’re practically monkeys anyway

Give credit to where credit’s due
I still believe the stars are forces too
Why can’t it just be me and just be you?

Jupiter wouldn’t be bothered to ask you on a date
And where was Neptune at Valentine’s, Christmas, and birthdays?
No constellation constantly overlooks your dumb beliefs to be with you
Just to be with you

The shifting patterns of Saturn and the moon
Conspired to rob me of this love
and fill the night sky up with gloom
Wish I could say to Tycho Brahe “I spit upon your grave”
‘Cause now I hate astronomy, too

Give credit to where credit’s due
I still believe the stars are forces too
Why can’t it just be me and just be you?
If Jupiter and Gemini, Saturn, Neptune, the moon and I align
Will I…?
