Bottle Up

High atop my head where the wind is thin
and the sky is cold
a heavy cloud inhabits the wind its in

I go to work
I pay my bills
I drink a beer
Fridays I dance alone
I hope it resolves itself like the weather

Is it just me?
Is it you?
Or worst of all is it the system too?
I’m blacking out
Boarding up
Closing down

If I cry, and no one hears, does it make a sound?
What’s the point of crying at all when there’s no one else around?
What will I do when I have no one left to lean into?
You can lean into me
And that’s not such a bad thing, is it?

I express glory to all who call
But you were the best that I ever saw
I have known too many verses to count them all
Here’s one I could bottle up and float to you

Is it just me?
Is it you?
Or is it the whole fucking system too?
I’m blacking out
Boarding up
Closing down

If I cry, and no one hears, does it make a sound?
What’s the point of crying at all when there’s no one else around?
What will I do when I have no one left to lean into?
You can lean into me
And that’s not such a bad thing.

Someone told me once a man shouldn’t cry
Now all I can do is try not to laugh at you
